This fort was constructed by the British East India Company. The fort as its name describes, is a piece of land with five coconut trees, was given to the East India Company by the queen for trading. This fort was the first signal station for the ships coming from England. There is a cemetery inside the fort and is one of the oldest among the cemeteries. It dates back to 1704. The square shaped fort comprises of four bastions, each equipped with eight cannons. There is a lighthouse near to the fort which is also open to tourists.  The highlight of the fort is the beautiful beach near to it.

A 2000-year-old temple located in Varkala, also referred to as Dakshina Kashi (Banaras of the South, this temple is one of the major pilgrimage sites. The diety Janardhana Swamy is the avatar of Lord Vishnu.  The idol with four arms has Conch shell, wheel, mace and pot. Apart from the main diety, Janardhana Swamy, painted idols of Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman and other gods are also worshipped here. The temple is located near to Varkala Papanasam beach.  The circular sanctum is spectacular with conical domes of copper sheet. The ceiling has wooden carvings of Navagraha (Nine Planets).

Varkala beach is the only place in Kerala where you can see cliffs adjacent to the sea. These cliffs are formed by the sediments deposited from the sea. Cliffs also known as Varkala formation are geological monuments as recorded by the Geological Survey of India. Water flows through the sides of these cliffs.

This palace is located in Padmanabhapuram, in the Kanyakumari district. Although this palace is located in Kanyakumari of Tamil Nadu state, it comes under the administration of archaeological department of Kerala. This 16th century palace, built by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal is located at the foothills of the Veli Hills. This is considered to be the largest wooden palace in Asia.
